S & M Nix Enterprises, LLC. was started in 2005 by the owners, and my parents, Steve and Moira Nix. It was started with the sole purpose of installing electric for Harrison County REMC. The operation was started with one backhoe, a single axle dump truck and trailer, a Ditch Witch trencher, and a Dodge pick-up truck. Their sons, Kyle (Me) and Clayton, were both in school. I was attending Purdue University and Clayton was still in high school at North Harrison Community schools.

My father has lived in Depauw, IN for his entire adult life, while my mother was born here, and both have lived on a farm. We raise beef cattle for freezer beef as well as market livestock. Both Steve and Moira have driven a school bus for the North Harrison School Corporation for nearly 30 years. Steve has been a grave digger since 1990, while farming and driving a school bus.

I graduated from Purdue University in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science, while minoring in economics. Clayton graduated from Indiana University Southeast in 2009 with an Associates Degree. We have both returned to the business to work there full time upon graduating. I have become the Operations Manager for the company and handle the day-to-day functions of business.

Since the company’s start in 2005, our family has been able to maintain all of our previous jobs, while expanding and growing the company. Today we have over 20 pieces of equipment and perform many different tasks, both commercial and residential. We install septic systems, basements, water lines, electric lines, waterways, driveways and anything else that has to do with dirt. We also do demolition work as well as do road repairs for the Harrison County Highway Department, and installing electric for Harrison County REMC.
